Your home on the Cape should feel like a retreat, not a place you share with pests. Coastal conditions on the Cape create pest pressure that is more intense than most of Eastern Massachusetts. Ocean humidity accelerates termite activity in wooden foundations, wooded areas from Sandwich to Yarmouth shelter deer ticks, and seasonal rental properties can sit empty for months while infestations grow undetected.

Mosquitoes and ticks are not just a nuisance on the Cape: Barnstable County is one of the highest-risk tick counties in Massachusetts, with Lone Star ticks now established on the Cape alongside the deer tick.

A single tick bite can cause Lyme disease, and Cape Cod’s Mosquito Control Project has operated since 1928 because mosquito-borne disease is a real, documented public health concern here.

Meanwhile, termites and rodents are especially dangerous in the Cape’s mix of older historic homes and post-WWII capes, ranches, and colonials. Older wood-frame construction near water is highly vulnerable to subterranean termite damage. Rodents routinely enter vacant seasonal properties during fall and winter, causing damage that goes unnoticed until owners return in spring.
GreenHow’s Hyannis-based technicians know these patterns. We survey your property, identify exactly which pests are present, explain what we find, and propose a treatment plan. You decide what to do — no pressure, no upsells.

Why Cape Cod Needs Specialized Pest Control

Cape Cod’s geography creates pest challenges that general pest control is not built to handle:
  • Coastal humidity from ocean and freshwater ponds creates ideal conditions for eastern subterranean termites, carpenter ants, and moisture-driven infestations year-round
  • Barnstable County tick risk is among the highest in Massachusetts, with deer ticks active in spring through fall, and Lone Star ticks now documented on the Cape since 2015.
  • 36% of Cape Cod homes are seasonal properties — vacant homes for months at a time create undetected infestations of rodents, termites, and insects before owners return
  • Coastal mosquitoes and biting midges (no-see-ums) and require targeted treatment methods specific to the Cape’s wetland and beach environments
Our technicians are trained on Cape Cod’s specific pest species, home construction types, and seasonal infestation patterns. You get a specialist, not a generalist.

How We Protect Your Cape Cod Property

Our GreenHow technicians follow the same thorough process on every visit. First, we inspect your property from foundation to roofline. We check for active pests, entry points, moisture issues, and structural vulnerabilities. Then we explain exactly what we found before we recommend anything.
Treatment uses the lowest-impact products available, verified by outside auditors, and safe for your family and pets. After treatment, we advise you on how to keep pests out long-term. You will also receive an email notification and photo of your technician before every visit — so you always know who is coming and what their credentials are.
