Your yard on the Cape should be a place your family enjoys, not one you share with ticks. Cape Cod’s landscape creates tick pressure that is more intense than most of Eastern Massachusetts. Wooded lots from Sandwich to Yarmouth, coastal shrubland, and kettle pond edges all provide the humid, shaded ground cover that ticks need to survive and quest for hosts. Barnstable County is one of the highest-risk tick counties in all of Massachusetts. Three species bite people here, and each one carries different health risks. The deer tick, also called the black-legged tick, is the biggest concern. It is active year-round on the Cape whenever temperatures are above 40 degrees.
About 38% of adult deer ticks in this region carry the bacteria that causes Lyme disease. Nymph deer ticks are roughly the size of a poppy seed and are easy to miss. They are most active from May through August, which is also when Lyme disease transmission is at its peak. The Lone Star tick arrived on Cape Cod in 2011 and is now found in more areas of the Cape each year. It does not carry Lyme disease, but a bite can trigger Alpha-Gal Syndrome, a serious allergic reaction to red meat that has no cure. Barnstable County health officials are tracking this condition as Lone Star tick populations grow.
The American Dog tick is active from spring through fall. It is most common along dune grasses and open fields, and it should not be ignored. GreenHow’s Hyannis-based technicians know these patterns. We inspect your property, identify exactly which tick species are present, explain what we find, and propose a treatment plan.
You decide what to do, no pressure and no upsells.

Why Cape Cod Needs Specialized Tick Control

Wooded areas from Sandwich to Yarmouth
shelter deer ticks that are active from early spring through late fall, and that can bite on warm winter days above 40 degrees.

Barnstable County tick risk
is among the highest in Massachusetts, with Lyme disease the most common tick-borne disease in the region and three tick species now documented on the Cape.

Lone Star ticks, first found on the Cape in 2011
are spreading into more areas each year and now pose a growing risk of Alpha-Gal Syndrome for Cape Cod residents and visitors.

Coastal shrubland, kettle ponds, and lawn edges
create a patchwork of tick habitat that borders many Cape Cod properties, meaning tick exposure can happen in your own backyard
Our technicians are trained on Cape Cod’s specific tick species, seasonal patterns, and local habitat types. You get a specialist, not a generalist.
Tick Control Services in Cape Cod
Tick-Only Plan
We treat tick habitat in early spring, late spring, and fall to knock down populations at peak activity times.

Monthly Protection Plan
Best for properties with high tick pressure. Service runs from March through November. Spring and fall visits focus on tick habitat; summer visits add mosquito protection.

Tick Tube Treatment
Tick tubes contain treated nesting material that field mice and chipmunks carry back to their burrows. This reduces tick populations on the small animals that bring ticks closest to your home.

How We Protect Your Cape Cod Property from Ticks
Our GreenHow technicians follow the same process on every tick control visit. First, we inspect your property, checking wooded borders, lawn edges, leaf litter, and wood piles for tick habitat. We note which species are active and where the pressure is highest. Then we explain exactly what we found before we recommend anything. Treatment uses a pesticide labeled for tick control, applied to vegetation and ground cover where ticks quest for hosts. We also use tick tubes to reduce the tick load carried by field mice and chipmunks around your yard. All products are selected for the lowest impact on people, pets, and pollinators, and are verified by outside auditors. After treatment, we advise you on steps to keep tick pressure down long-term. Before every visit, you receive an email with your technician’s photo and credentials so you always know who is coming.

Each tick control visit is personalized to your property size, tick species pressure, and treatment needs. Call us today to discuss your situation and get a free estimate.
I don’t see my town listed. Can I still call for tick control?
Yes. We service most of Eastern Massachusetts, including the Metro Boston, North Shore, South Shore, and Metro West areas. Call us and we will confirm coverage for your town.
Are ticks really a year-round problem on Cape Cod?
Yes. Deer ticks on the Cape are active whenever temperatures are above 40 degrees, including fall and winter. Adult deer ticks are most active in the cooler months. Nymph ticks are hardest to spot and most active from May through August.
What tick species are on Cape Cod?
Three tick species bite people here: the deer tick (black-legged tick), the Lone Star tick, and the American Dog tick. Each is active at different times and carries different health risks. Our technicians are trained to identify all three.
Are your tick control treatments safe for children and pets?
Yes. We use materials selected for the lowest risk to non-target organisms, including people, pets, and pollinators. All products are verified by outside auditors. You do not need to stay out of your yard after our treatment.
Are your services customizable for my Cape Cod property?
Yes. We build a service plan based on your property type, tick pressure, and needs. Options include a Tick-Only Plan, a Monthly Plan from March through November, and supplemental tick tube treatments. We recommend the right plan after your first inspection.
