The two differences between a small machine from an appliance or big box store and a high quality dehumidifier are the Energy Factor and low temperature operation.
The Energy Factor is a ratio that represents the amount of water produced by the machine divided by the energy put in. Specifically the number is liters of water produced divided by kilowatt-hours in (L/kWh). This higher this number, the more efficient the machine.
