Swampscott got its name from the local Native American tribe’s word for “red rock.” When it was initially settled in 1629, Swampscott was considered the eastern part of Lynn, which is its neighboring town. It wasn’t until 1852 that the town officially became independent.
Today, Swampscott is home to around 14,000 residents and is a quaint yet affluent residential beach town. It is known for its quiet suburban areas and access to several beaches along Nahant Bay, which directly connects to the vast Massachusetts Bay.
There is plenty of clear land for Swampscott’s popular beaches, but the town has a generally fairly rocky coastline. And, although it remains a beautiful place to call home, its location along the rocky coastline and flat grasslands can invite unwanted pests like mosquitos, termites, and much more into residents’ homes.
