Norwell had a rich history on the road to independence. Although Pilgrims settled in the early 1600s, Norwell belonged to the Satuit settlement (which later became Scituate). It wasn’t until 1888 that Norwell officially obtained its true independence. Its name is honorary as the town was named after Henry Norwell, a dry goods merchant who provided the village’s infrastructure funds in its early years.
Today, Norwell is a primarily residential town located in Plymouth County with around 10,000 residents along the South Shore. The Norwell Village Area Historic District is the downtown area, which was also originally the town common in the 1600s. Today, the Norwell Village Area is lined up with nightlife, libraries, churches, restaurants, and a wildlife reserve.
Unfortunately, being so close to industrial areas, wildlife reserves, and several bodies of water, Norwell’s homes like yours often invite unwanted pests like mosquitos, termites, and rodents that you don’t want anywhere near your property.
