Maynard is a quaint suburban town that has hundreds of years of colonial history attached to it. Like many other New England towns, Maynard was settled by Puritan colonists in the 1600s and developed into a bedroom community for major cities close by.
Because of the town’s proximity to the Assabet River, Maynard was initially settled as a farming community. The river served an essential role in Maynard’s growth as residents mainly used it to hydropower the wool and paper mills. Later on, the town transitioned to using coal-powered steam engines as the city added them to the Assabet River.
The Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge is also located within Maynard. Living near several rivers and a wildlife refuge is one of the best parts about being in Maynard, but it also means that there are plenty of uninvited pests that may make their way onto your property.
