Perhaps most well-known for its iconic tourist attraction, Fenway Park, Fenway is a Boston neighborhood named after The Fenway, the parkway which Frederick Law Olmstead designed in the late 19th century.
This neighborhood is close to the community of Kenmore, and locals will often refer to the whole area as Fenway-Kenmore. It’s also normal to hear the two names used interchangeably.
Fenway-Kenmore was developed in the 1870s. Today, the Fenway neighborhood is home to around 41,000 residents. Many of them are students attending Boston University, Northeastern University, and the Boston Conservatory of Music.
The Muddy River separates East Fenway from West Fenway, flowing through the Back Bay Fens gardens and into the Charles River. However, because of its history as a muggy marshland area located near rivers and gardens, residents are often exposed to unwanted pests like termites, mosquitoes, and rodents.
