Often referred to as the “hub of Brookline,” Coolidge Corner is a bustling business district located at the corners of Harvard Street and Beacon Street.
Named after the Coolidge Brother’s general store, which opened in 1857, this corner is a lively area for locals and residents alike. There are tons of independent stores, coffee shops, and restaurants, including the local favorite, Brookline Booksmith.
Thanks to the large Jewish population, it’s also easy to find kosher delis and grocers, with some of the top local favorites being Zaftigs Delicatessen, Michael’s Deli, and The Butcherie.
Residents enjoy the proximity to neighboring towns, but there are plenty of activities in Coolidge Corner. Also, like North Brookline, the area is very pedestrian-friendly, with public transit available and well-kept sidewalks for walking around the neighborhood and exploring the different shops.
Between the year-round shows at the Coolidge Corner Theater and the weekly farmers’ market, which is open from spring until the end of fall, there is always something to do. Locals and visitors can also visit the Coolidge Corner Arts Festival and other community events.
Almost everybody in town is also familiar with historical sights like the S.S. Pierce Clock Tower, which occupies the original Coolidge Brother’s store location. The clock tower is part of an older, Tudor-style building that’s been restored over the years.
