Carlisle is the epitome of a small New England town. With just over 6,000 residents, Carlisle remains a small town that offers all the necessities you may need. The town has a library, a country store, a dentist’s office—and plenty of ice cream stores.
Ice cream is famous in the area because it is home to one of the four branches of Kimball Farms at the Great Brook Farm State Park. This park is home to the first robotic milking system in Massachusetts. Local ice cream shops buy their milk from Great Brook Farm to make their ice cream, which is why it’s such a staple in the area.
Additionally, conservation land makes up nearly a quarter of the town’s total area, including the Great Brook Farm and a small section of the Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge which sits on the Concord River. But because of ecosystems like these being in such close proximity, Carlisle residents have their fair share of undesirable pests.
