Bedford sits about 15 miles from the coast and is easily accessible on Boston’s outskirts or through the city’s main channels. Bodies of water like the Concord River and the Shawsheen River run through the town’s borders. In the city’s early days, many residents relied on these rivers: Back in the 1840s, there was a paper mill along the Shawsheen, which provided many jobs for the working class.
