English settlers came to the area that today is known as Andover, MA in the 1630s. They first named the town after a local waterway, called Cochichewick by the Native Americans, but changed the name to the Town of Andover in 1646. In its early years, Andover was a manufacturing town with paper, wool, and powder mills.
