Why do I have ants and weeds in my patio?
Ants, wasps, and weeds can move into your patio before you know it. Weeds move into cracks that hold organic matter and moisture. Insects like ants and wasps that like a warm area will utilize joints that need maintenance to build a nest. A patio must be maintained to keep it looking great. To maintain your patio to keep it looking good and keep insects and weeds from establishing a presence, utilize a seasonal service plan that you can handle on your own.
Keep the patio clean and free of organic matter year-round by using a broom or powered blower. If oils spill on the patio, use an absorbent material to soak up the spill – don’t rub it in. Use a protective pad under your grill. Consider moving your furniture periodically to keep the stones weathering evenly. If appropriate, seal the patio as needed based on the manufacturer recommendations. Sweep in new sand into the joints to keep them tight. Use a plastic shovel to remove snow and ice to minimize damage to the surface.
