Pembroke was settled around 1650 when settlers Robert Barker and Dolor Davis explored the vicinity of Herring Brook. At the time, the Wampanoag and Massachusett people were the area’s primary residents who relied on fishing and farming along the coastal rivers.

Today, Pembroke is home to around 18,000 residents and was even a contender for CNN Money’s 2009 “Best Places to Live” list. It also serves as the midpoint of the bustling city of Boston and the relaxing getaway of Cape Cod, making it a perfect in-between for entertainment and relaxation.

Pembroke is unique because most of its geography is dominated by several rivers, like the Silver Lake, Great Sandy Bottom Pond, and dozens of ponds and streams that cut through the town and surrounding areas. Pembroke is also heavily made up of thick forests, which are home to turtles, eagles, raccoons—and, unfortunately, also unwanted pests including insects like termites and ticks plus a population of rodents.
