Dehumidifiers

High humidity is a common issue in New England.

Dehumidifiers are the best way to control humidity inside.

Dehumidifiers

To keep your home and business dry we sell and install high quality dehumidifiers.  Moisture is a key component for insects and fungus to survive and thrive.  In New England high humidity levels are common in basements and crawl spaces.  Because air moves up in a building driven by the stack effect, the quality of air at the basement and foundation will impact the entire structure.

The ThermaStor high efficiency dehumidifiers are a great value.  They will cost more than machines from retail outlets at initial purchase but quickly pay for themselves in two ways.

Remove more moisture

These machines remove nearly twice the water of competitive machines, especially at lower temperatures typically found in basements where the competition ices up and spend time and energy running defrost cycles.  Your dehumidifier should be great at its first job-removing water.  A dehumidifier works by pulling air across cold coils where water condenses and drips into a pan for removal.  Less moisture in the home means fewer insects of all types – including house centipedes, dust mites and spiders.

Energy efficiency

These machines save you substantial money in electricity and use up to 1/5 the power of other portable dehumidifiers.  Dehumidifiers are the biggest energy users in peoples homes – and the most ignored.  An energy efficient dehumidifier is an investment in your health and improves your home environment.  Your air conditioning is more efficient and feels more effective when the air in your home is dry.

Dry Basements and Crawl Spaces Reduce Pesticide Use.

  • Measure

It is important to use a humidistat to determine the current temperature and humidity in your basement or crawl space.  Other evidence like a funny odor, the presence of moisture loving insects or fungus will bring humidity issues to your attention.  If your home has a basement laundry or a sump pump (or both) you probably have a high humidity level.

  • Location

Depending on the type of foundation, basement or crawl space, we will recommend a high quality dehumidifier that will work efficiently in the space you have.  If you don’t have a floor drain system, and most people don’t, then we will set up a condensate pump to remove the water produced by the machine.  Most homes need 2 grounded outlets available for the dehumidifier and the pump.  Never run a dehumidifier off a power strip or extension cord.

  • Options for Dehumidifiers

We we set up your dehumidifier we will recommend options to make the operation easy.

Pump.  The attached pump to eject condensate if drain is the most common option we install to remove the water produced.  The components for an attached condensate pump includes the pump, a pump bracket, eject line tubing and  fittings to direct and secure the tubing.  We run plastic tubing from the pump to an appropriate drain location.

Optional Duct-ability.  Attaching duct work to the unit promotes air circulation throughout the basement or crawl space allowing for placement of the dehumidifiers in remote locations such as a mechanical room or near an outlet that may not be centrally located. The components for a duct system include the duct kit for the machine, the duct, a register and register grill.  A discharge and return duct may be used.
Filters. 4 pack MERV Filters and 1 Pre Filter to last 1 year.  Merv8, Merv11 or Merv13 filters may be standard depending on the machine.
Hang Kit or Feet. Crawlspace applications utilize a hang kit to hold the machine in place.  Models other than the Santa Fe Classic which is on wheels require feet.

  • Warranty & Service

Keep a dry basement with a low cost of ownership.

Industry leading 6 year warranty on Santa Fe Dehumidifiers.  ThermaStor machines are reliable and rarely have issues.  In the unlikely event the machine develops a problem, Greenhow is committed to standing behind what we sell with repair service and a loaner machine for your property if your machine ever needs to come back to our shop for repair.

For the first 2 years pickup and shipping is free.  For service required in year 3 to 6 pick up and shipping may be charged.  Shipping to the factory in Wisconsin from New England is normally less than $469.  For machines not covered by warranty or after warranty service some repairs like blowers or defrost switches can be performed at your property.   Home repairs normally are $129 plus parts. Loss of coolant or compressor failure will require the machine to go back to the factory for a repair.  Complete repairs and shipping are normally less than $1000 including pick up and set up in your home.

Between the energy savings, long warranty and ability to have the machine completely serviced at the factory, a Santa Fe dehumidifier offers years of very low cost of ownership.

Dehumidifiers = Pest and Odor Management

2 differences to tell high quality dehumidifier

The two differences between a small machine from an appliance or big box store and a high quality dehumidifier are the Energy Factor and low temperature operation.

Energy Factor?

The Energy Factor is a ratio that represents the amount of water produced by the machine divided by the energy put in.  Specifically the number is liters of water produced divided by kilowatt-hours in (L/kWh).  This higher this number, the more efficient the machine.  The Energy Star® website has great information on dehumidifiers.   If you select the Product List on the right side of the page and sort descending by energy factor you will see the machines with the highest energy factor and water removal over 100 pints a day are all made by ThermaStor.  We have sold and serviced only ThermaStor dehumidifiers for over 10 years.

Low temperature operation

In the lower temperature environments often found in a basements and crawl spaces, other machines will run blower only or de-icing cycles using power and not removing any water.  Santa Fe machines are engineered for the temperature and air flow issues that surface in crawlspaces and basements. When many conventional dehumidifiers have stopped removing water, these machines continue to protect your family and your home.
